Diversity culture as a source of enrichment
THE PROJECT
The Sport for All programme reaches Ascoli Piceno for the 2022-2023 season, in particular SSD Borgo Solestà with the project ‘Facciamo goal alla disabilità’ where football teams are integrated from a young age. Sporting activity thus becomes a valuable opportunity for growth and enhancement for all young football enthusiasts. The project is reserved for children and young people with mental disabilities and stems from a sensitivity linked to the concept of sport and the need for integration and social inclusion between young disabled and able-bodied peers.
The able-bodied person playing alongside the disabled person is educated to understand the abilities of others. All together they feel a strong desire to test themselves and win with their team. Sensitivity, generosity and fun are part of the equipment of the great champion. The ambition and challenge is to raise the children with the true values of the sport of football.
THE PURPOSES
“Facciamo goal alla disabilità” is the first pilot project in the Province of Ascoli Piceno, created to give children and young people with intellectual disabilities, in the absence of major motor deficits, the opportunity to get involved in the sport of football together with their able-bodied peers. For young people with disabilities, having a natural context for fun and socialisation is an invaluable opportunity for integration. A complementary objective is to sensitise able-bodied children to the culture of diversity as a source of enrichment.
THE BENEFICIARIES
The young beneficiaries are young people between the ages of 8 and 28, who have intellectual disabilities, who will be included in the football club’s football teams. The indirect beneficiaries are the young people’s families, teammates and the surrounding society.
