Tales from the Amatrice camp | Sport for Change

Testimonials from some beneficiaries

Antonio, 8 years old

“Hi, I’m Antonio and I live in Amatrice. I have participated in all the sport4restart campuses. On the campus we have fun and they teach me new things. I have the opportunity to learn things that I had never experienced and that help us become stronger. This campus will remain in my heart forever. When I am with them I am happy and I feel that I can be free. I can play with my friends and being together is the best thing in the world. When I grow up I would like to be a footballer and it will also be thanks to this campus, which will help me to understand which role I am best at.”.

Samuele, 15 years old

“Hi, I’m Samuele and I live in Amatrice. I spent my childhood in Amatrice where I still live. I have been playing football in ASD Amatrice for 10 years. In 2018 we were lucky enough to meet the guys from sport4restart who have helped us a lot to grow in football but not only. I was a student until a few months ago and they motivated me to improve my potential. Now, together with the sport4restart instructors, I pass on to children and young people what I learned previously, trying to make them have fun. I have a small dream of becoming a footballer. It’s obvious that in life I have to make sacrifices, set goals and follow a path. This is where I started. In these years we have learned that even the great champions of sport have moments of difficulty, but that each of us has within him the strength to overcome them.”

Emanuele, 6 years old

“Hello, I’m Emanuele and I’m from Amatrice. On this campus I have learned many things, football and that when you are in difficulty you can count on your teammates. When I grow up I want to be a footballer and I hope this project never ends.”

Giulia, 16 years old

“Hi, I’m Giulia, I’m 16 years old and I live in Amatrice. I love football, it’s my favourite sport, I started playing with Amatrice a few years ago but it only had the men’s category, this year I changed, now I’m with Ascoli women’s team and I’m doing very well. I have participated in all the sport4restart campuses held here in Amatrice, first as a student and then as an instructor, and in both cases I had a lot of fun. On the last campus I was the first to manage the children’s training, it was an unforgettable experience, seeing them having fun and believing in what they were doing made me feel good… then I went home, ate, and after an hour I was on the field training with kids my age, I can’t describe what I felt in those moments, I only know that I was there and that I didn’t want to be anywhere else. I would like, one day, to be able to become someone in the world in football, it is my dream, I am working hard and I will work hard to achieve it. I would like to thank all those who, for some years now, have been constantly coming to Amatrice to make us spend days that are different from usual, dominated by fun, but above all by personal growth, which I have felt over time. Each time they manage to make us forget everything else and dedicate ourselves to what we care about most, sport, and perhaps this is the most important thing right now.”
