Thanks to Sport for All Maria Carolina has learnt new small but important gestures of everyday life

In the Sport for All program at Accademia Scherma Lia, Maria Carolina is one of the girls who fences. Initially, it was hard for her to fit in, but with her tutor’s help and the whole team’s help, she did.

In the words of Maria Carolina’s tutor: ‘Thanks to Accademia Scherma Lia and the Fondazione Milan, Maria Carolina was able to take part in sport, which had always been difficult and discouraging for her because of her motor difficulties.’ During training sessions with her teammates, she’s achieved great things, both physically and relationally.

Maria Carolina’s motor fluidity improved in every aspect of her daily life thanks to precise athletic training and targeted activities tailored to her abilities. Plastic swords helped her improve her manual dexterity in fencing.

We worked together to improve each gesture, which was useful in everyday contexts like holding a fork.

Stretching time was also very significant for her, helping her to relax and stretch her muscles and thus working effectively on her movement difficulties.

The experience with the group left her with the most meaningful lessons, such as always greeting her teammates both on the way in and on the way out. This got her to perform this simple gesture in every context.

Fondazione Milan’s Sport for All programme, together with the invaluable work of centres such as Accademia Scherma Lia and the support of BitMEX, allows many children to regain confidence in their abilities through the practice of sport.
