The two organisations join forces to promote a tangible and long-term impact for the local community, starting with the expansion of a school for 100 girls and boys in the province of Central Congo
Milan, 17 October 2025 – Leveraging the Club’s role and Fondazione Milan’s ability to generate impact for the community: this is one of the pillars of the collaboration launched this summer by AC Milan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
As a confirmation of this commitment, Fondazione Milan is initiating a partnership with Fondazione Mama Sofia – active in the Congolese territory for eight years and founded by Zakia Seddiki Attanasio, wife of the Italian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Luca Attanasio – to support the construction and expansion of a school for 100 girls and boys aged between 12 and 19, in the village of Biabu, in the province of Central Congo.
Specifically, during this sporting season, the project will include the creation of fully equipped
multidisciplinary laboratories with machinery and teaching materials, as well as educational and recreational areas. The initiative aims to promote the physical and mental well-being of young people, focusing on an integrated approach that combines sport, education, and well-being as levers for social inclusion and independence.

This initiative is set to grow over time, generating a tangible impact also in the capital Kinshasa and in Boma, focusing on vocational training, economic independence, and public health.
Rocco Giorgianni, Secretary General of Fondazione Milan, stated: “We are delighted to launch this collaboration and give substance to our social commitment in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where Fondazione Milan promoted its very first international project back in 2003. Alongside a well-established local organisation such as Fondazione Mama Sofia, we aim to raise awareness and generate real, positive change that can bring long-term benefits to the local community.”
“This partnership is much more than an initiative: it is a gesture of love, responsibility, and trust,” said Zakia Seddiki Attanasio, President of the Mama Sofia Foundation. “It is a concrete way to reach out to those who are too often left behind. We believe in the development of Congo as a journey that starts with people, with education, with sport, and that brings with it dignity, autonomy, and hope. Together with AC Milan, we share the dream of a future in which every young person can feel seen, heard, and valued. Together, we want to build real, lasting opportunities and bring to life a change that starts from the heart.”
In alignment with the objectives of the Mattei Plan for Africa and the Global Gateway – strategic cooperation and investment initiatives in the African continent promoted respectively by the Italian Government and the European Union – the partnership between AC Milan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo aims to support the country’s development not only on a social level, but also from an economic, cultural, and touristic perspective, while fostering a healthy sporting culture.
