The projects
This season, Fondazione Milan has launched a collaboration with the Mama Sofia Foundation, active in the Democratic Republic of Congo since 2017, to carry out a high-impact social initiative in the village of Biabu, in the province of Central Congo. The project involves the construction and expansion of a school for 100 girls and boys aged 12 to 19, as well as the creation of fully equipped multidisciplinary workshops and educational and recreational spaces. The goal is to promote an integrated approach combining sports, education, and well-being, in order to foster social inclusion and personal development for young people.
The collaboration between Fondazione Milan and the Mama Sofia Foundation was born from the desire to create lasting and tangible change for local communities, promoting dignity, trust, and hope. The project aligns with the goals of the Mattei Plan for Africa and the European Global Gateway program, aiming to support the development of Congo not only socially but also economically, culturally, and through sports. Through education and sports, the two foundations seek to create real opportunities for young people, helping to form a generation capable of looking to the future with awareness, autonomy, and a sense of community.
The main beneficiaries of the project are young people from the Congolese territory, particularly those living in socially and economically vulnerable contexts. Through the school and proposed activities, girls and boys will have access to new educational, formative, and sports opportunities, developing skills that will facilitate their autonomy and integration into society. The initiative is part of a broader plan aimed at generating benefits in other areas of the country, such as Kinshasa and Boma, where issues related to vocational training, economic independence, and public health will also be addressed.
