Sport, smiles and fun all round for the young people in the town
Ten years on from the earthquake which struck L'Aquila and nine years after the inauguration of the new sports centre in Pagliare di Sassa, a facility which continues to be a point of reference for the people living in the area, Fondazione Milan is returning to Abruzzo for a Special Soccer Camp in collaboration with the UISP (Unione Italiana Sport per Tutti) division from the provincial committee of L'Aquila APS.
This week of football, enjoyment and friendship, which began today and will conclude on Friday 6 September, will involve 80 youngsters who live in L'Aquila and surrounding municipalities. The initiative will be hosted at the Centi Colella Sports Centre, where Polisportiva L'Aquila Rugby play. It will be a week full of sports activities and much more, with there set to be daily sessions in both the morning and afternoon under the watchful eyes of AC Milan coaches.
The inauguration of the camp took place this morning in the presence of representatives of the Fondazione Milan, local institutions, young people and their families. Smiling faces and a great passion for the game of football, something which unites everyone. The Fondazione Milan organised an edition of the Special Soccer Camp at the municipal camp of Scoppito back in 2011, with the aim of giving an unforgettable and enjoyable experience to young people who still hold the terrible memories of the earthquake.
The Rossoneri charity has been holding Special Soccer Camps for some years now, all dedicated to social inclusion and sport integration, helping young people to play together with their peers with autism and other learning disabilities. The camps also support sporting activities in places affected by earthquakes in recent years, such as L'Aquila and Amatrice. Sport, especially football, is a universal tool that allows these children to create new friendships, and as a result to take back a hold of their futures with greater confidence in what’s to come.
